McLaren Racing and Sweet are collaborating on another unique NFT collection which releases during the 2022 British Grand Prix. As many Formula 1 fans know, McLaren Racing has a rich history within the sport. Their founding dates all the way back to 1963 and their first Grand Prix win came in 1968 at the Belgian Grand Prix. Since those early beginnings, McLaren Racing has won twelve Drivers’ Championships with legendary drivers like Emerson Fittipaldi, James Hunt, Kimi Raikkonen, and Lewis Hamilton headlining their team. These drivers challenged the limits and physics of the sport to ignite passion in millions of F1 fans across the world. The McLaren team also continually pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in racing with restless technical development to support their success on the track. The purpose of these NFT collections is to celebrate the team’s accomplishments, as well as commemorate the visceral experiences of their fans and build unforgettable memories.

As part of these NFT drops, a few fans in attendance will have access to some amazing in-real-life (IRL) experiences. Three McLaren NFTs, released over the course of 3 days at the British Grand Prix will include a Racing Helmet, a Racing Suit, and a pair of Racing Boots. One lucky fan (trackside) who purchases the Racing Helmet NFT on July 1st will get the opportunity to experience a “hot lap” around the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit with a McLaren Racing driver on July 2nd. Then on July 2nd one fan (trackside) who purchases the Racing Suit NFT will be selected to tour the McLaren Racing garage (with a guest). Similarly, fans who collect the Racing Boots NFT on July 3rd will be entered into a draw to win a special behind-the-scenes tour of McLaren’s Headquarters in Surrey, England. There will also be the chance to win a virtual call with a McLaren driver and second-place prizes in the form of driver-signed caps distributed to NFT holders each day of the campaign.

In addition to the amazing IRL experiences that McLaren Racing is making available to a few lucky fans — any McLaren fan who manages to collect all three McLaren NFTs will unlock a fourth “master NFT” that will combine all three racing suit elements into a complete driver. Their completed British Grand Prix NFT collection will also earn them a spot on a virtual call with a McLaren F1 driver. The name of the McLaren driver will be announced on July 8th as a surprise and delight feature of the NFT release.

This is the fourth collaboration between Sweet and McLaren Racing. The first collaboration offered fans a tokenized version of a McLaren MCL35M Formula 1 car, where the vehicle was digitally disassembled into twenty-two parts using special computer-aided design tools, giving fans a chance to build their own 3D racing car with NFTs. The second NFT drop landed in January 2022, and introduced time-based minting, as well as a “paint shop” where holders of the car parts from the first program could trade them in for the gulf-liveried version.

In May, Sweet and McLaren launched another exclusive NFT collection to celebrate the Indianapolis 500-mile race. The drop comprised 106 NFTs, marking the 106th year of the Indy 500, and granted holders with access to all three of the Arrow McLaren SP Indy drivers via an exclusive virtual call. All four NFT drops have been minted on the energy-efficient Tezos blockchain and hosted on Sweet at mclarenracingcollective.com.

Sweet is extremely excited and honored to once again be working with the legendary McLaren Racing team. After a record-breaking attendance in 2021, the Formula 1 Lenovo British Grand Prix promises more of the same in 2022. This is the biggest and fastest sporting event in the UK. It is also a weekend festival that is full of great fun, energy, and entertainment with plenty of on and off-track action.

“We’re shifting up a gear in our collaboration with McLaren Racing yet again, expanding the limits of what is possible in the realm of NFTs,” said Tom Mizzone, CEO of Sweet. “Not only will Formula 1 fans be able to add another set of unique digital collectibles to their collections, but they’ll also get an opportunity to take a tour around McLaren’s real-world garage and Surrey HQ as well as enjoy a ride with some of the best racers in the world.”
